Dough Preparation

Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Melt Butter
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Add canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, and salt. Stir to combine and let simmer for 15-20 minutes.

Stir in chopped fresh basil before serving. Remove from heat and set aside.

Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Shape Knots
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 6-8 inches long and tie it into a knot.

Place the knots on a greased baking sheet and brush them with the garlic butter. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
