Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm milk (about 110°F) with yeast and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the activated yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let It Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Cream Cheese Filling Preparation

  1. 6

    Mix Filling Ingredients

In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract together until smooth and creamy.

Fruit Topping Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare Fruit

In a small saucepan, combine the fresh fruit, sugar, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Assembly & Baking

  1. 8

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 9

    Roll Out Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle on a floured surface.

  3. 10

    Cut the Dough

Cut the rolled dough into squares (about 4x4 inches).

  4. 11

    Fill the Pastries

Place a spoonful of cream cheese filling and a spoonful of fruit topping in the center of each square.

  5. 12

    Fold and Seal

Fold the corners of the dough over the filling to form a pocket and pinch to seal.

  6. 13

    Prepare Egg Wash

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.

  7. 14

    Brush Egg Wash

Brush the tops of the pastries with the egg wash for a golden finish.

  8. 15

    Bake

Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  9. 16

    Cool and Serve

Allow the Danish pastries to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
