Fish Roe

Marinade

Method

Prepare the Salmon Roe

  1. 1

    Rinse the Roe

Gently rinse the salmon roe under cold running water to remove any impurities or excess salt. Drain well.

  2. 2

    Soak in Marinade

In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Place the rinsed salmon roe into the marinade and let it soak for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator.

Prepare the Garnish

  1. 3

    Chop Green Onions

Finely chop the green onions and set them aside for garnish.

  2. 4

    Toast Sesame Seeds

In a dry skillet over medium heat, lightly toast the sesame seeds until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Stir frequently to avoid burning.

Serve the Ikura

  1. 5

    Plate the Ikura

Once the salmon roe has marinated, remove it from the marinade and gently place it on a serving dish.

  2. 6

    Add Garnish

Sprinkle the chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds over the salmon roe.

  3. 7

    Serve Chilled

Serve the Ikura chilled as a delicacy, either on its own or as a topping for sushi or rice.
