Method

Preparing the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Set Up Your Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, prepare the breading station. Place the flour in the first bowl, beat the eggs in the second bowl, and mix the bread crumbs, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.

  2. 2

    Coat the Cheese Sticks

Take a mozzarella cheese stick, coat it in flour, then dip it in the beaten eggs, and finally roll it in the bread crumb mixture until well coated. Repeat this process for all cheese sticks.

  3. 3

    Freeze the Cheese Sticks

Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This helps to prevent the cheese from melting too quickly when frying.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is hot enough.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully add a few frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Preparing the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 7

    Add the Tomatoes

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, and add the dried basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Mix well.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Adjust seasoning to taste.
