Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water into the batter until smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Cocoa Powder

Gradually add the cocoa powder to the butter and mix until combined.

  3. 10

    Add Sugar and Milk

Add powdered sugar and milk alternately, beating well after each addition until the frosting is fluffy and smooth.

  4. 11

    Finish with Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

  5. 12

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, and then place the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake.
