Preparation Steps
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) and honey. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Mix well to ensure the salt is evenly distributed.
- 3
Combine Wet Ingredients
Once the yeast is activated, add the olive oil to the yeast mixture.
- 4
Form the Dough
Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until a dough begins to form. Use your hands to knead the dough in the bowl until it comes together.
- 5
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- 6
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- 7
Shape the Loaf
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Shape it into a loaf or divide it for rolls as desired.
- 8
Second Rise
Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet. Cover it again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- 9
Preheat Oven
While the dough is rising, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 10
Bake the Bread
Once the dough has risen again, bake it in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- 11
Cool and Serve
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Enjoy your Easy Street Wheat bread!
