Method
Brisket Preparation Directions
- 1
Prepare the Brisket
Start by trimming any excess fat from the brisket, leaving about 1/4 inch of fat on the top for moisture.
- 2
Season the Brisket
In a small bowl, mix together the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Rub this spice blend all over the brisket, ensuring an even coating.
- 3
Sear the Brisket
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the brisket, fat side down, and sear for about 4-5 minutes until browned. Flip and sear the other side for another 4-5 minutes.
- 4
Prepare the Braising Liquid
In a large roasting pan, combine the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke. Stir to mix well.
- 5
Add Brisket to Braising Liquid
Place the seared brisket fat side up in the roasting pan with the braising liquid. Add the fresh rosemary and thyme sprigs on top.
- 6
Cover and Cook
Cover the roasting pan tightly with aluminum foil and place it in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C). Cook for about 4 hours or until the brisket is fork-tender.
- 7
Rest the Brisket
Remove the brisket from the oven and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.
- 8
Serve
Slice the brisket against the grain and serve with the braising liquid as a sauce.
