Rinse the pinto beans under cold water to remove any debris.

In a large bowl, soak the rinsed beans in 6 cups of water overnight or for at least 6 hours.

Stir in the cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper and cook for an additional minute.

Simmering the Beans
Add the soaked beans to the pot and pour in 6 cups of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beans are tender.

Once the beans are cooked, stir in the chopped fresh cilantro and adjust seasoning to taste.
