Method

Making Gnocchi

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and let cool slightly.

  2. 2

    Mash the Potatoes

Peel the potatoes and mash them in a large bowl until smooth.

  3. 3

    Make the Dough

Add the flour, egg, and salt to the mashed potatoes. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Shape the Gnocchi

Divide the dough into small pieces and roll them into 1-inch ropes. Cut into 1-inch pieces and shape them with a fork.

  5. 5

    Cook the Gnocchi

Boil a large pot of salted water. Add gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon.

Making Butter Sauce

  1. 6

    Melt the Butter

In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. 7

    Add Garlic

Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  3. 8

    Combine with Gnocchi

Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet. Toss with the butter sauce, parsley, salt, and black pepper.

Making Red Sauce

  1. 9

    Sauté the Onion

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft.

  2. 10

    Add Garlic

Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

  3. 11

    Make the Sauce

Add crushed tomatoes and basil. Simmer for 20 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  4. 12

    Combine with Gnocchi

Serve the cooked gnocchi topped with the red sauce.
