Method

Making the Bread

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, then add the yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape and Second Rise

Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.

  6. 6

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes until golden and sounds hollow when tapped.

Making the Butter

  1. 7

    Prepare Herb Butter

In a bowl, mix softened unsalted butter with minced garlic, chopped fresh herbs, and sea salt to taste until well combined.

  2. 8

    Chill and Serve

Transfer the herb butter to a piece of parchment paper, roll it into a log, and refrigerate until firm. Serve with warm bread.
