Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/2 inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Whisk the dry ingredients together until well blended. Gradually add cold water while whisking until the batter is smooth and thick.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  3. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil. Fry them in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
