Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings and set them aside.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well combined.

  2. 3

    Add Water

Gradually add the cold water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Let it rest for about 10 minutes.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Dip and Fry

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off before carefully placing them into the hot oil. Fry in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.

  3. 6

    Cook Until Golden

Fry the onion rings for about 2-4 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 7

    Garnish and Serve

Serve the onion rings hot, optionally garnished with ketchup or ranch dressing for dipping.
