Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Shellfish

Rinse the mussels under cold running water, scrubbing the shells to remove any debris. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Lobster

Using kitchen shears, cut the top of the lobster tail shell lengthwise down the middle, stopping before the end. Gently pull the lobster meat up through the opening, keeping it attached at the end. This will allow for even cooking.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and shallots. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until they become translucent and fragrant.

  2. 4

    Add Liquids

Pour in the white wine and chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  3. 5

    Cook the Shellfish

Add the mussels to the pot, cover, and cook for about 5 minutes until they begin to open.

  4. 6

    Add Lobster

Once the mussels have opened, carefully place the prepared lobster tails on top of the mussels. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Cover and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the lobster is cooked through and opaque.

Finishing Touches

  1. 7

    Garnish and Serve

Remove the pot from heat. Sprinkle the fresh parsley and thyme over the seafood. Serve immediately with crusty bread to soak up the broth.
