Method

Preparing the Fish

  1. 1

    Season the Fish

In a bowl, sprinkle salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder over the tilapia fillets. Rub the seasoning into the fish for even coating and let it marinate for about 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes. In the first dish, place the cornstarch. In the second dish, beat the eggs. In the third dish, place the breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

    Bread the Fish

Take each seasoned tilapia fillet and first dredge it in cornstarch, shaking off the excess. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, followed by coating it with breadcrumbs. Ensure the fish is well-coated.

Frying the Fish

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a breadcrumb into it; it should sizzle.

  2. 5

    Fry the Fish

Carefully place the breaded tilapia fillets into the hot oil, making sure not to crowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fish and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 6

    Prepare the Sides

While the fish is frying, prepare the French fries according to package instructions or fry them in a separate pan until golden and crispy.

  2. 7

    Plate the Dish

On a serving plate, arrange a few pieces of fried tilapia alongside a generous serving of French fries. Add lemon wedges and a small bowl of tartar sauce on the side for dipping.
