Potatoes

Method

Preparation of Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water. Peel them if desired. Cut the potatoes into even sticks, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Cajun Seasoning

  1. 3

    Mix the Seasoning

In a small bowl, combine paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, salt, dried oregano, and dried thyme. Mix well to create the Cajun seasoning blend.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potatoes to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. While the fries are still hot, sprinkle the Cajun seasoning mix over them to taste, tossing to coat evenly.
