Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Mussels

Rinse the green mussels under cold running water, scrubbing the shells with a brush to remove any dirt or barnacles. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.

  2. 2

    Chop the Garlic and Parsley

Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves. Rinse the fresh parsley under cold water, shake off excess moisture, and chop it roughly.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Lemon

Cut the lemon in half. Squeeze the juice from one half and set aside. Cut the other half into wedges for garnish.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Sauté Garlic

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant, but not browned.

  2. 5

    Add Mussels and Wine

Add the cleaned green mussels to the pot along with the white wine, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  3. 6

    Cook Mussels

Cover the pot and increase the heat to high. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the mussels have opened up. Discard any mussels that remain closed.

  4. 7

Finish with Parsley and Lemon Juice

Remove the pot from heat. Stir in the chopped parsley and the lemon juice. Mix well to combine.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Mussels

Transfer the mussels to a serving dish, pouring the broth over them. Garnish with lemon wedges and additional chopped parsley if desired.

  2. 9

    Serve Immediately

Serve the green mussels warm with crusty bread on the side for dipping in the flavorful broth.
