Prepare Tater Tots

Bake Tater Tots
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the frozen tater tots on a baking sheet and drizzle with cooking oil. Bake according to package instructions, usually about 20-25 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Cook the Beef
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Combine Remaining Ingredients
Stir in the canned kidney beans (drained and rinsed), diced tomatoes (with juice), chili powder, ground cumin, salt, black pepper, and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer and reduce heat to low. Let simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Assemble Loaded Tots

Once the tater tots are done baking, remove them from the oven and place them in a large serving dish. Spoon the homemade chili generously over the tater tots.

Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the chili while it's still hot, allowing it to melt. Top with sliced green onions.
