Ingredients

Main Ingredients

Preparation

Preparation

1. Wash and Chop Apples

Thoroughly wash the apples under running water. Cut them into quarters, leaving the skins and cores intact to add flavor.

2. Combine Ingredients

In a large pot, combine the chopped apples, water, sugar, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and nutmeg.

Cooking

3. Simmer the Mixture

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let it simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

4. Mash the Apples

After simmering, remove the pot from heat. Use a potato masher or a wooden spoon to mash the apples and release their juices.

5. Strain the Mixture

Set a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth over another pot or bowl. Pour the apple mixture into the strainer to separate the liquid from the solids. Press down on the solids to extract as much juice as possible.

6. Add Lemon Juice

Stir in the lemon juice to the strained apple cider for added brightness and flavor.

Serving

7. Serve Warm or Chilled

Serve the apple cider warm on a cool day or chill it in the refrigerator for a refreshing drink. Optionally, you can garnish with additional cinnamon sticks or apple slices.
