Method
Ice Cream Base Preparation
- 1
Combine Base Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- 2
Chill the Mixture
Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours or overnight. This helps the flavors to meld and the mixture to chill before churning.
Flavoring
- 3
Add Cocoa Powder for Chocolate Ice Cream
If making chocolate ice cream, whisk in the cocoa powder to the chilled base mixture until fully incorporated.
- 4
Add Pureed Strawberries for Strawberry Ice Cream
If making strawberry ice cream, mix in the fresh strawberry puree into the chilled base mixture until fully combined.
Churning and Freezing
- 5
Churn the Ice Cream
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, typically for about 20-25 minutes, or until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- 6
Freeze the Ice Cream
Transfer the churned ice cream into an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
