Method
Prepare the Chili
- 1
Cook the Beef
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onions and minced garlic, cooking until the onions are translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- 2
Add Ground Beef
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Stir in the tomato sauce, kidney beans, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- 4
Simmer the Chili
Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cook the Tater Tots
- 5
Prepare Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat cooking oil to 375°F (190°C).
- 6
Fry the Tater Tots
Carefully add the frozen tater tots to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels, then sprinkle with salt to taste.
Assemble the Chili Cheese Dogs
- 7
Grill the Hot Dogs
Grill or cook the all beef hot dogs according to package instructions until heated through and slightly charred.
- 8
Build the Dogs
Place each hot dog in a bun and generously top with the homemade chili. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
