Naan Bread Ingredients

Method

Naan Bread Directions

1

Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.

3

Combine Wet Ingredients

Add the yogurt and ghee/butter to the yeast mixture, then pour this mixture into the dry ingredients.

4

Knead the Dough

Mix until a soft dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.

5

Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

6

Shape the Naan

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into an oval or round shape.

7

Cook the Naan

Heat a skillet or tandoor over high heat. Cook each naan for about 1-2 minutes on each side until puffed and golden brown.

8

Add Garlic and Garnish (Optional)

If using, brush each naan with melted ghee or butter mixed with minced garlic, and sprinkle with fresh cilantro.
