Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the New York Strip steak out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Rub the steak with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and minced fresh rosemary on both sides.

Cooking the Steak

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes until hot.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Place the seasoned steak in the skillet and cook for 4-6 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 4-6 minutes for medium-rare. Adjust cooking time for desired doneness.

  3. 5

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing.

Crispy Mashed Potatoes Preparation

  1. 6

    Boil the Potatoes

Peel and chop the russet potatoes into quarters. Place them in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 7

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the unsalted butter, heavy cream, salt, black pepper, and Parmesan cheese. Mash until smooth.

  3. 8

    Prepare for Crispy Topping

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a baking dish and top with panko breadcrumbs.

  4. 9

    Bake for Crispiness

Place the baking dish in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and crispy.

Seasonal Vegetables Preparation

  1. 10

    Prepare the Vegetables

Wash and trim the asparagus and peel the carrots. Cut the carrots into thin strips.

  2. 11

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the asparagus and carrots, season with salt and black pepper, and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until tender.

Plating

  1. 12

    Serve the Dish

Slice the rested steak against the grain. Plate the crispy mashed potatoes, sautéed seasonal vegetables, and sliced steak, and garnish with fresh chives.
