Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Sprinkle the New York strip steak with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  2. 2

    Cook the Steak

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

  3. 3

    Melt the Cheese

Slice the cooked steak thinly against the grain. Place the slices on a baking sheet, top with Gruyere cheese, and place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garlic Butter Preparation

  1. 4

    Make Garlic Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Add minced garlic cloves and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in chopped fresh parsley and remove from heat.

Au Jus Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare Au Jus

In a saucepan, combine red wine, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, diced onion, and minced garlic. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and let it cook for 15-20 minutes until slightly reduced. Strain the mixture to remove solids.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Assemble Mini Steak French Dips

Slice the mini baguettes in half and brush the insides with the garlic butter. Fill each baguette half with the steak and melted cheese. Serve warm with a side of au jus for dipping.
