Spianata Pizza is an Italian-style pizza featuring a blend of spicy and savory toppings, including spianata salami and a rich tomato sauce. The use of Calabrian chili peppers and Piquillo peppers adds a distinctive heat and depth to the flavor, in contrast to traditional pizza toppings. Here's how to create your own Spianata Pizza at home.

Cooking Directions

1

Prepare the Sauce

In a blender, combine the San Marzano tomatoes, Calabrian chili pepper, and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth.

2

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) or your pizza stone if you have one.

3

Assemble the Pizza

Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread the Calabrian chili-infused tomato sauce evenly over the dough.

4

Add Toppings

Layer the spianata salami, piquillo peppers, and mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce. Sprinkle with grated Pecorino Romano cheese.

5

Bake the Pizza

Drizzle a little olive oil over the top and place the pizza in the preheated oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

6

Garnish and Serve

Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, slice, and serve hot.
