Toppings (optional)

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add 2 cups of macaroni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Prepare the Roux

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and golden.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in 2 cups of milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheese and Seasonings

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Add 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of mustard powder. Mix well.

Combining and Serving

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Cheese Sauce

Add the drained macaroni pasta to the cheese sauce and stir until all the pasta is well coated.

  2. 6

    Add Toppings (Optional)

If desired, sprinkle 1 cup of breadcrumbs and 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese on top of the mac and cheese.

  3. 7

    Bake (Optional)

For a crispy topping, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the mac and cheese for 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown.

  4. 8

    Serve

Serve hot with a side of fries or a fruit cup.
