For the Jalapeño Poppers

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Jalapeños

Wash the jalapeños under cold water. Cut them in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and membranes using a spoon or a paring knife. This will help reduce some of the heat.

  2. 2

    Make the Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and crumbled bacon. Mix until well combined and smooth.

  3. 3

    Stuff the Jalapeños

Using a spoon or a small spatula, fill each jalapeño half with the cheese mixture, packing it in generously.

Breading and Frying

  1. 4

    Prepare the Breading Station

Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with the beaten egg, and the third with breadcrumbs.

  2. 5

    Bread the Jalapeños

Take each stuffed jalapeño, first coat it in flour, then dip it into the beaten egg, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs. Make sure each jalapeño is evenly coated.

  3. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a large frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking. You can test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; it should sizzle immediately.

  4. 7

    Fry the Jalapeños

Carefully place the breaded jalapeños in the hot oil, a few at a time, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  5. 8

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried jalapeños from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
