Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture along with olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Mix the ingredients until a dough begins to form. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Pizza Assembly

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.

  2. 6

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a circle about 12 inches in diameter.

  3. 7

    Add Sauce and Cheese

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a border around the edges. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute them evenly over the sauce.

  4. 8

    Add Toppings

Drizzle olive oil over the pizza, sprinkle salt and black pepper. Scatter fresh basil leaves on top.

  5. 9

    Bake the Pizza

Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for about 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbling.

  6. 10

    Cool and Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
