Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, then add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Cook the Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and salt. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Pizza Assembly

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 7

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide it into 2 equal portions for large pizzas or 4 for smaller ones. Roll or stretch each portion into a round shape.

  3. 8

    Add Sauce and Toppings

Spread a layer of sauce on each pizza base leaving a small border at the edges. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and your choice of toppings like pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, and olives.

  4. 9

    Bake the Pizzas

Transfer the pizzas to the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  5. 10

    Slice and Serve

Remove the pizzas from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot.
