Marinara Sauce

Method

Pizza Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Cook Sauce

In a saucepan, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 6

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and stir in dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assembling the Pizza

  1. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).

  2. 8

    Shape Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch round.

  3. 9

    Add Sauce and Cheese

Spread half of the marinara sauce on one side of the dough and the other half on the opposite side. Top each half with fresh mozzarella cheese.

  4. 10

    Bake Pizza

Transfer the pizza to a baking sheet or pizza stone and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  5. 11

    Garnish and Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
