Candy Selection
Method
Preparation
- 1
Gather Ingredients
Collect all the candies you wish to freeze-dry. Ensure that they are fresh and of high quality.
- 2
Preheat Freeze Dryer
Set your freeze dryer to the recommended temperature settings for candies, usually around -40°F (-40°C) to -60°F (-51°C).
Freeze Drying Process
- 3
Arrange Candies
Place the gummy bears, marshmallows, Skittles, and fruit chews in a single layer on the freeze dryer trays. Avoid overcrowding to allow for proper airflow.
- 4
Load the Freeze Dryer
Insert the trays into the freeze dryer. Make sure the door is sealed properly to maintain the low temperature.
- 5
Start the Freeze Dryer
Turn on the freeze dryer and follow the manufacturer's instructions. The process will typically take between 20-40 hours depending on the type of candy and the machine used.
- 6
Check for Doneness
Once the cycle completes, check the candies for dryness. They should be crispy and lightweight. If they feel chewy or soft, run another cycle.
Storage
- 7
Store Freeze-Dried Candy
Once fully dried, place the candies in airtight containers or vacuum-sealed bags to keep moisture out. Store in a cool, dark place.
- 8
Label and Date
Label your containers with the type of candy and the date of freeze-drying for future reference.
