Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Spiral Cut the Potatoes

Using a spiralizer, spiral cut the large russet potatoes to create curly fries. If you do not have a spiralizer, you can use a knife to cut the potatoes into thin, curly strips.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the spiral cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water for about 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and achieve a crispier fry.

Batter Preparation

  1. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until well mixed.

  2. 4

    Add Cold Water

Gradually add the cold water to the dry mixture, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Coat the Potatoes

Drain the spiral cut potatoes and pat them dry with a paper towel. Dip them into the batter to coat evenly.

  3. 7

    Fry the Curly Fries

Carefully place the coated curly fries into the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 8

    Drain Excess Oil

Once fried, remove the curly fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve Hot

Serve the curly fry basket hot with ketchup and ranch dressing on the side for dipping.
