Ice Cream Base Preparation

Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, and salt until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Add Flavor
If making vanilla ice cream, stir in the vanilla extract. If making chocolate ice cream, add the cocoa powder and mix well until fully incorporated.

Chill the Mixture
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly chilled.

Churn the Mixture
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours, or until firm.
