Prepare the Filo Dough
Thaw the filo dough according to package instructions. Unroll and cover with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
Assembling Baklava

Layer the Filo
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Lay down one sheet of filo dough in the dish, and brush with more melted butter. Repeat until you have 8 layers.

Add the Filling
Spread about 1/3 of the nut mixture evenly over the layered filo. Add 4 more layers of filo, brushing each with melted butter. Repeat the process of adding nuts and layering filo until all the filling is used, finishing with 8 more layers of filo on top.

Cut and Bake
Before baking, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes with a sharp knife. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.

Finish the Baklava
Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot baklava. Allow it to soak for a few hours or overnight.
