Falafel Ingredients

Method

Falafel Preparation

  1. 1

    Soak the Chickpeas

Place the dry chickpeas in a large bowl and cover them with water. Let them soak overnight or for at least 8 hours until they are soft.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Mixture

Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas. In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, garlic cloves, onion, fresh parsley, ground cumin, ground coriander, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Pulse the mixture until it is well combined but still slightly chunky.

  3. 3

    Add Flour

Transfer the chickpea mixture into a bowl and stir in the flour. Mix until the flour is fully integrated into the mixture. You may need to adjust with more flour if the mixture is too wet.

  4. 4

    Shape the Falafel

Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls or patties, about the size of a golf ball.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. You want enough oil to cover the falafel balls halfway.

  6. 6

    Fry the Falafel

Once the oil is hot, carefully place the falafel balls in the oil. Fry them in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the falafel from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce or as a part of your meal.
