Cake Ingredients

Method

Preparing the Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Start and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Making the Frosting

  1. 8

    Prepare Chocolate Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing until combined.

  2. 9

    Add Milk and Vanilla

Add milk and vanilla extract to the mixture, beating until smooth and spreadable. Adjust with more milk if needed.

  3. 10

    Prepare White Frosting

In another bowl, beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.

  4. 11

    Assemble the Cake

Place one cake layer on a serving platter. Spread a layer of chocolate frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides with remaining chocolate frosting.

  5. 12

    Add White Frosting

Spread the white frosting over half of the cake. Drizzle with melted semisweet chocolate on the frosted half.
