Method
Preparation
- 1
Wash the Sorrel
Thoroughly wash the fresh sorrel leaves under cold running water to remove any dirt or debris.
- 2
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.
- 3
Add Sorrel Leaves
Once the water is boiling, add the washed sorrel leaves to the pot and reduce the heat to medium. Let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes until the leaves are wilted and the water has turned a vibrant green color.
- 4
Strain the Mixture
After simmering, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl to separate the liquid from the sorrel leaves.
- 5
Sweeten the Drink
While the liquid is still warm, add 1 cup of sugar to the strained sorrel liquid and stir until fully dissolved.
- 6
Add Lemon Juice
Stir in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to add a refreshing tang to the drink.
- 7
Chill the Drink
Allow the sorrel drink to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour until it's chilled.
- 8
Serve with Ice
When ready to serve, pour the chilled sorrel drink into glasses filled with ice cubes. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.
