Pork Preparation

Serving Suggestions

Method

Preparing the Pork

  1. 1

    Season the Pork

In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub the spice mixture evenly over the pork shoulder.

  2. 2

    Rest the Pork

Let the seasoned pork sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate.

Cooking the Pork

  1. 3

    Prepare the Cooking Liquid

In a bowl, mix together apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce until well combined.

  2. 4

    Cook the Pork

Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour the cooking liquid over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

Shredding and Serving

  1. 5

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 6

    Serve

Serve the pulled pork on buns with coleslaw and BBQ sauce, if desired.
