Method
Preparing the Rice
- 1
Soak the Rice
Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- 2
Steam the Rice
Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steaming basket lined with cheesecloth. Steam over boiling water for about 30-40 minutes until the rice is tender and sticky.
Making the Coconut Sauce
- 3
Combine Ingredients
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- 4
Mix with Rice
Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and pour half of the warm coconut sauce over the rice. Stir to combine and let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Serving
- 5
Prepare the Mango
Peel the ripe mangoes and slice them into thin strips.
- 6
Assemble the Dish
To serve, place a portion of the sticky rice on a plate, top it with the sliced mango, and drizzle the remaining coconut sauce over the top. Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds or mung beans for added texture.
