Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Take the ribeye steak and pat it dry with paper towels. This helps to get a good sear. Season both sides of the steak generously with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Cooking Surface

Heat a cast-iron skillet or grill over high heat. Add the olive oil to the pan and allow it to heat until it shimmers.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sear the Steak

Once the oil is hot, place the seasoned ribeye steak in the skillet. Sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it to develop a crust.

  2. 4

    Flip the Steak

After 4-5 minutes, flip the steak using tongs. If using garlic and herbs, add them to the pan now for added flavor.

  3. 5

    Cook to Desired Doneness

Continue cooking for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature; 130°F (54°C) is ideal for medium-rare.

Resting

  1. 6

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for at least 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  2. 7

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the ribeye against the grain and serve. Enjoy your perfectly cooked ribeye steak!
