Tuna Preparation

Avocado Bed

Method

Tuna Preparation

  1. 1

    Sear the Tuna

Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add the sesame oil. Season the tuna steak with salt and black pepper on both sides. Once the oil is hot, sear the tuna for about 1-2 minutes on each side, just until the outside is cooked but the inside remains rare. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

  2. 2

    Coat with Sesame Seeds

Once cooled, roll the seared tuna in sesame seeds until well-coated on all sides. This adds a nice crunch and flavor.

Special Sauce

  1. 3

    Make the Sauce

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, mirin, wasabi paste, and honey until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Avocado Bed

  1. 4

    Prepare the Avocado

Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Mash gently with a fork, add lime juice and salt to taste. Mix until creamy but still chunky.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Plate the Dish

Spread the mashed avocado evenly on a serving plate. Slice the seared tuna into thin strips and arrange them neatly over the avocado. Drizzle the special sauce over the tuna and garnish with additional sesame seeds if desired.
