Method

Preparation

1

Gently shape the ground beef into a 1/2 inch-thick patty, being careful not to overwork the meat to maintain juiciness.

2

Season the patty on both sides with salt and pepper just before cooking.

Cooking the Patty

3

Grill or Pan-Sear

Preheat grill or heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface if needed. Place the patty on the hot surface and sear without moving for about 3-4 minutes until a crust forms and the bottom side is browned.

4

Flip the patty and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. If using cheese, add a slice on top during the last minute of cooking to melt.

5

To toast buns, place cut sides down on the grill or skillet for about 1 minute until lightly toasted.

Assemble

6

Base

Spread desired condiments on the bottom bun.

7

Layer lettuce, then tomato slices, followed by red onion rings.

8

Place the cooked beef patty on top of the vegetables.

9

Cap with toasted top bun and serve immediately.
