Pizza Dough & Sauce
Method
Make and Bake Pizza
Activate yeast
In a small bowl, whisk warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let rest 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Prepare dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add olive oil and the foamy yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms, then knead on a floured surface 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. If using gluten-free flour, follow the blend's instructions and add a bit more water as needed to form a soft dough.
First rise
Lightly oil a bowl, place dough inside, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Preheat and shape
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Punch down risen dough and divide if making two pizzas. Roll or press dough into a 16-inch round (or desired size) on a floured surface or parchment.
Add toppings
Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small crust edge. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over the sauce. Add optional toppings if desired.
Bake
Transfer pizza to a hot baking stone or sheet. Bake 12–15 minutes, until crust is golden and cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve
Let pizza rest 5 minutes before slicing. Slice into wedges and serve warm.
