Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- 2
Form the Meatballs
Shape the mixture into 12-16 meatballs, about 1-1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet.
- 3
Cook the Meatballs
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.
- 4
Prepare the Sauce
In a saucepan, heat the herb tomato sauce over medium heat until simmering.
- 5
Assemble the Sandwiches
Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise. Place 3-4 meatballs in each roll, spoon over some of the warm herb tomato sauce, and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- 6
Melt the Cheese
Place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 7
Add Pesto
Remove from the oven and drizzle with pesto before serving.
