1. Prepare the Onion
Slice the onion thinly. If desired, you can sauté the onion in a tablespoon of butter until golden and softened.
2. Prepare the Bread
Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
3. Assemble the Sandwich
On the unbuttered side of two slices, spread a tablespoon of Dijon mustard. Layer with liverwurst, then add the sautéed (or raw) onion slices.

Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side out.
