1. Prepare the Onion

Slice the onion thinly. If desired, you can sauté the onion in a tablespoon of butter until golden and softened.

2. Prepare the Bread

Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.

3. Assemble the Sandwich

On the unbuttered side of two slices, spread a tablespoon of Dijon mustard. Layer with liverwurst, then add the sautéed (or raw) onion slices.

4. Complete the Sandwich

Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side out.

5. Cook the Sandwich

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.

6. Serve

Remove from skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve warm.
