Stromboli Ingredients

Method

Stromboli Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Filling

In a skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.

  2. 2

    Cook the Vegetables

In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil. Add the chopped bell peppers and onion. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Combine with the cooked sausage.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Stromboli

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the Italian bread roll or pizza dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread marinara sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Layer the sausage and vegetable mixture on top, and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly.

  4. 4

    Roll and Bake

Starting from one edge, carefully roll the dough into a log, tucking in the sides as you go. Place the rolled Stromboli seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with olive oil and cut a few slits on top to allow steam to escape. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Serve

Let the Stromboli cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with additional marinara sauce for dipping.
