Ingredients for Pilau

Method

Instructions for Pilau

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beef

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another minute.

  3. 3

    Add Spices and Beef

Stir in the tomato paste and pilau masala spice mix. Cook for 2 minutes, then add the cubed beef and stir well. Cook until the beef is browned on all sides.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Pour in the water and season with salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer until the beef is tender (about 30-40 minutes).

  5. 5

    Cook the Rice

Once the beef is tender, add the soaked and drained basmati rice to the pot. Stir gently to combine. Cover and cook on low heat for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and has absorbed the liquid.

  6. 6

    Let it Rest

Remove from heat and let the pilau sit, covered, for another 10 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
