Chapati Ingredients

Method

Chapati Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water while kneading the mixture until it forms a soft and pliable dough. If desired, add oil to make the dough smoother.

  2. 2

    Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 20-30 minutes. This helps to relax the gluten and makes rolling easier.

  3. 3

    Divide and Roll

After resting, divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball). On a floured surface, roll each ball into a thin circle, about 6-8 inches in diameter.

  4. 4

    Cook the Chapati

Heat a tava or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the rolled chapati on the skillet. Cook for about 30 seconds until small bubbles form. Flip it over and cook for another 30 seconds. Press gently with a spatula to encourage puffing. Flip again if necessary.

  5. 5

    Serve

Once cooked, remove the chapati from the skillet and place it in a container lined with a clean kitchen towel. Serve warm with your favorite curry or dish.
