Method

Brewing Process

  1. 1

    Mashing

In a large pot, bring the water to about 65°C (149°F). Add the barley malt and stir well. Maintain this temperature for about 60 minutes to convert the starches to sugars.

  2. 2

    Lautering

After mashing, separate the liquid (wort) from the grain. This can be done by pouring the mash through a fine strainer or cloth into a fermentation vessel.

  3. 3

    Boiling

Bring the wort to a boil and add the hops. Boil for about 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help extract the flavors from the hops.

  4. 4

    Cooling

After boiling, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches about 20°C (68°F).

  5. 5

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a fermentation vessel, sprinkle the yeast on top, and seal it with an airlock. Allow it to ferment in a cool, dark place for about 2 weeks.

  6. 6

    Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, dissolve the priming sugar in a small amount of boiling water, cool it, and add it to the beer. Bottle the beer and cap the bottles. Let them carbonate for another 1-2 weeks.

  7. 7

    Enjoying

After carbonation, chill the bottles and enjoy your homemade Iron Horse Irish Death with friends!
