Beer-Battered Fish
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Slowly add the beer to the dry ingredients, mixing until you achieve a smooth batter.
- 2
Prepare the Fish
Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels. This helps the batter stick better. Cut the fillets into manageable pieces if they are large.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Batter the Fish
Dip each cod fillet into the batter, ensuring they are well-coated before gently lowering them into the hot oil.
- 5
Fry the Fish
Fry the fish in batches for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Prepare the Fries
While the fish is frying, prepare frozen fries according to package instructions until crispy.
- 7
Serve
Serve the beer-battered fish over a bed of fries and accompany with tartar sauce.
