Method

Sauce Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 2

    Add Tomatoes

Add the canned whole tomatoes, including their juice, to the saucepan. Use a wooden spoon to break the tomatoes into smaller pieces.

  3. 3

    Season the Sauce

Stir in the salt, sugar, and dried oregano. Allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

Pizza Assembly

  1. 4

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to its highest setting, usually around 250°C (482°F). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.

  2. 5

    Prepare the Dough

On a floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a circle about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer it to a pizza peel or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 6

    Spread the Sauce

Spread the prepared Margherita sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese

Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute them evenly over the sauce.

  5. 8

    Bake the Pizza

Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

  6. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and immediately scatter fresh basil leaves on top. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil before slicing and serving.
